Hilditch Group partners with Amalthea Trust to run workshop for Zambian students

The Amalthea Trust recently provided an exciting opportunity for final year Biomedical Engineering students, from Evelyn Hone College in Zambia, to join an online workshop focused on medical equipment maintenance.

Run in partnership with Hilditch Group and The Tropical Health Education Trust (THET), this comprehensive workshop focused on ventilators, patient monitors and anaesthetic machines, allowing the students to learn about fault finding and preventative maintenance. With an expert team online, they were able to ask lots of questions, while getting hands on experience thanks to having similar equipment their end.

Overall, it was considered a great success, thanks to those involved and the experts on the day; Andy Barrow (Kent Hospitals NHS Trust), Jas Bilkhu (Amalthea Trust and Ex- New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton) and Roger Sanders (Head of BME Dept. at Hilditch Group).

The Amalthea Trust would always prefer volunteers to visit in person, however the online workshop allowed them to conduct some really meaningful work, so this will continue until travel is permitted again. In the meantime, a repeat workshop is already being planned for a group of BMEs from some of Lusaka’s major hospitals.
